Why was the data set created?

To identify locations of York County, South Carolina, Public and Private Schools, Colleges

How was the data set created?

  1. From what previous works were the data drawn?

  2. How were the data generated, processed, and modified?

Date: Unknown (process 1 of 3)
This layer of point data was created by converting of a 10+ year old CAD file in which points were added using AutoCAD to digitize from 1990 orthophotography. Attribution was added later. In August of 2005 school locations were compared with 2005 orthophotos and adjusted where necessary.

Data sources used in this process:

    • Server=gisserver; Service=esri_sde; Database=sdeYrkco; User=gis; Version=sde.DEFAULT

Date: Unknown (process 2 of 3)
    Dataset copied.

Data sources used in this process:

    • Server=sql1; Service=5151; Database=sdeyrkco; User=sdereader; Version=sde.DEFAULT

Date: Unknown (process 3 of 3)

  3. What similar or related data should the user be aware of?

How reliable are the data; what problems remain in the data set?

  1. How well have the observations been checked?

Some data may be new, or was not verifiable. Those attributes are left vacant or zeroed.

  2. How accurate are the geographic locations?

  3. How accurate are the heights or depths?

  4. Where are the gaps in the data? What is missing?

All private and public institutions from 1st grade and up are included. Day cares, preschools, home schools, kindergartens, tutoring facilities, and the like are not included.

  5. How consistent are the relationships among the observations, including topology?

School points are based upon locations of schools as they appear on 2005 orthophotography. All attribution was obtained from the respective schools and/or school districts and is updated as needed. Testing of data is not performed.
